Some phantoms are paranormal, but in this collection they are tricks of the mind, illusions, or fantasies, like hearing someone outside your window at night, but then realizing it's the rustling of leaves in a tree. Or when you lose a limb and the brain insists that it’s still there. “I can feel where it used to be”— speaking to an absent piece of you.
The phantoms in this collection are places we existed in. It explores the ways they speak to us, perhaps constantly altering our current states. If we can’t make sense of where we are then how do we make sense of who we are?
For these artists, this altered reality is where the inspiration lies— between the utopia of the good place, and the place that cannot be.
